Student Financing Options
We are a federal government Designated Learning Institute (DLI) meaning student financing options are available through the Government of Canada and Government of Saskatchewan. As such, a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) can be used to pursue flight training with us. Additionally, there are scholarships available to both private and commercial pilot students. Many banks also offer student lines of credit for persons pursuing further education.
Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)
RESPs can be used for both Private Pilot’s License and Commercial Pilot’s License training! Contact your financial institution to understand what documentation they require. In most cases, only a Letter of Enrolment is required however, in some cases additional documentation is required. Once you speak with your financial institution, contact MFC with the requirements and we will provide everything we can for your financial institution.
Government Financing (Student Loans)
The GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN, in partnership with the Government of Canada, offers non-repayable grants and repayable student loans for both full-time and part-time commercial pilot students. A full-time student constitutes as a student enrolled in a Mitchinson Flight Centre approved ground school course and with a minimum of three flight bookings per week. A student not meeting the criteria for full-time will be considered a part-time student. The application process can be completed online through the GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN WEBSITE. Once the online portion is completed, you will be provided a form to be filled by Mitchinson Flight Centre which you will then return to Saskatchewan Student and Support Services.
Scholarships
There are multiple awards, bursaries, grants, and scholarships available to student pilots through the Canadian Owners and Pilot’s Association (COPA), the Government of Saskatchewan, and the Government of Canada.
COPA also offers scholarships for private pilots students and drone students.
Student Line of Credit
Many banks offer student lines of credit for flight training. Contact your financial institution to learn more about the options available to you.
