Mitchinson Flight Centre was established in 1946 and is the largest Flight Training Unit in Saskatchewan located at the Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport. Our aim is to provide students with the tools needed to ensure a safe and successful flight every time they take to the skies. We develop pilots to be safe, sensible, and skilled. Our alumni have flown from the Arctic Circle to the South Pole and around the world, working in every sector of the industry.
Current Opportunities
Flight Instructor — Class 1-4 (Multiple Opportunities)
Position Summary:
We have multiple opportunities for Flight Instructors. We offer high quality instruction to students seeking a career in the aviation industry at various levels. Instructors not only teach in the aircraft, but also in the simulator and ground school classes. Instructors will be expected to teach lessons from PPL through to Multi-IFR and have some administrative responsibilities in addition to flight training.
Requirements:
- Canadian Flight Instructor Rating — Class 1 to 4
Preference will be given to applicants with some or many of the following:
- Group 1 Instrument Rating
- Previous employment as a pilot
- Airline Transport Pilot License
- Multi/IFR teaching experience
- Aviation Degree/Diploma

Dispatcher (Multiple Part-Time Opportunities)
Position Summary:
The Dispatcher is the first to welcome our valued customers. You must possess, first and foremost, a positive and engaging attitude. The main role of this job will be to help our customers feel welcome and informed; coordinate the dispatching of aircraft, flight instructors, student/rental pilots; along with other administrative duties.
Please keep in mind that many of the customers that enter our hangar are quite foreign to aviation. Please help them feel at ease by welcoming and assisting them in any way you can.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Greet and assist all customers to our hangar upon entrance to reception area (If you are on the phone, please at least make eye contact or place call on hold to greet the customer)
- Standing up from behind the reception desk when someone enters presents a warm welcome; please offer all those entering our business a warm welcome
- Answer phone calls and emails from customers
- Describe our products and services (sales work) to potential customers,
- Uphold the professional image of Mitchinson Flight Centre, and conduct yourself in a professional manner
Dispatch:
- Dispatch/scheduling of aircraft and staff
- Schedule customers in the Flight Dispatch program
- Record times from students and instructors and create billings for same
- Review the flight schedule for optimum use of our fleet
- Review next day flying to ensure all aircraft will be ready for flight as scheduled (plugged in if in the tent)
- Work with instructors and students to provide excellent customer service
Administrative:
- Process invoicing and payments on our invoicing system and point of sale machine
- Sell and redeem gift certificates
- Update and create various Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Mircrosoft Word documents
- Respond to internal and external Outlook emails and calendar events
- Create customer files, copying forms, completing paperwork, and monitoring various supply levels
- As you gain experience, further duties may be assigned
Miscellaneous:
- Cleaning, organizing, updating, creating… if you see something that needs doing, please take the initiative to get the job done. *If unsure about a certain task, please ask Management for approval first
- Keep Dispatch area neat and tidy (clean computer screens, phones, printers, sweep)
Training on industry specific requirements and programs will be provided (flight following, dispatch, emergency procedures, etc.).

Fueler (Multiple Part-Time Opportunities)
Position Summary:
This position requires the individual to be organized and a self-starter.
Please keep in mind that many customers that enter our hangar are quite foreign to aviation, and if you see someone looking lost, please help them to Dispatch or Management for assistance.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Fueling:
- Safe operation of Kubota and fueling equipment
- Follow safe procedures for fueling different aircraft in fleet
- Cessna 152, 172 and 172 RG
- Cessna 182
- Cessna 310
- Record daily fuel pumped to fuel slips
- Weekly and end of month fuel dips
- Uphold the professional image of Mitchinson Flight Centre, and conduct yourself in a professional manner
- Hangar and tent “stack” working with Dispatch regarding flights on following day (*Winter operations; ensure sure aircraft scheduled to fly are plugged in)
- Assist customers as required with parking aircraft
- Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP) license is required for airside driving (Mitchinson will provide training and pass)
Aircraft Cleaning:
- Regular cleaning of aircraft using industry specific cleaners
- Vacuum
- Wash windows
- Clean upholstery
- Wash exterior
Building Cleaning:
- Follow Weekend checklist when working weekends
- Sweep floors
- Dispatch, reception, classroom, washrooms, hangar, lunchroom
- Wash floors using mop and cleaning solution (Same areas as sweep)
- Wash windows in building once a month
- Vacuum and clean exam room once a month
- Collect all garbage / recyclables and take out daily
- Winter duties for outside maintenance including shovel snow from all entrances and walkways, apply ice-melt if required
- Assist with engine tents and wing covers (install and storage of same)
- Summer duties for outside maintenance including cut grass, whipper snip, pull weeds
Miscellaneous:
- Always look for something to do. If you have an idea and are unsure, please ask management for direction
- Keep hangar neat and tidy
- Assist fellow staff as required
Training on industry specific requirements and programs will be provided.
